Three happy dogs with Essien (October 2017)  - Am and Aus Champ Razzo Bellagio Absolutely Sinful (Imp USA), Ch Barad Misty Mountain and Ch Barad Mountain Cathedral (IID)

Welcome to the website for Barad Kennels, owners of a small number of Italian Greyhounds, Tibetan Spaniels and more recently Chihuahuas. We are located in Tasmania, Australia. We started as a family affair in 1970s when Barbara and her twin daughters Monique and Simone commenced breeding and showing Shetland Sheepdogs.

Barad Kennels is not really a 'kennel' as all our dogs live inside and are members of our families. It consists of three generations of dog lovers:

Twelve years ago our love affair with Tibetan Spaniels & Italian Greyhounds commenced. Monique purchased a Tibetan Spaniel from Barrajy Kennels and Simone an Italian Greyhound from Wondoan Kennels in Queensland. We knew we had found the breeds for us and not long after we decided to get back into the show ring. Good friend Rowena Ransley became interested in Italian Greyhounds when she purchased Betty from our very first litter in 2008 and joined us. Ro stopped showing and breeding in 2013. In 2014 another great friend Di Wazny joined our team and she is currently showing four Italian Greyhuonds in the North of the state.

We owe a great deal too to Chris Scott - Tunamara Kennels - South Australia, who we met by chance after Monique bred her first litter of Tibetan Spaniels. We were to discover that Chris loved and bred not only Tibetan Spaniels but Italian Greyhounds. We have had a number of lovely male dogs from Chris - our latest Ch Tunamara Titanium, who won breed at the 2014 Royal Hobart Show. Titan is father to our three latest litters.

In September 2009 our girl JLo (Ch Am Ch Razzo Bellagio Absolutely Sinful) arrived from Missouri in the US, after a two year search to find the right dog to import to strengthen and add to our existing Italian Greyhounds. Kristi Crouch and Con Moothart from the Bellagio and Razzo Kennels have been such great guides and they still are very excited to hear what JLo and her kids are doing in Australia. JLo entered Australia pregnant to a lovely boy - Am Ch Bo-Bett Press My Buttons and gave us a litter of pups that have proved to be the backbone of our breeding program.

The Tibbies live with Monique and the Iggies live with Simone, Rowena and Di.  We have been showing our Iggies and Tibbies since 2006 and continue to learn about these adorable toy breeds. We have made some great friends through our dogs, including other breeders from all around the country and in fact from other countries too.

    Responsible Breeding and Showing

We love these bright little dogs and love having them in our lives and we enjoy sharing this passion with other dog lovers in Tasmania.  It is really great when we are stopped on walks and asked 'what type of dog is that'? We strive to breed fantastic 'fit for purpose' companion dogs - temperamentally, genetically and physically sound pups that can join us and those that acquire our pups as members of the family.

We expect to breed approximately a litter a year, striving for puppies that are conformationally correct, healthy and with a happy sound temperament and that continue to improve the quality of the breed. Our puppies are raised around our children and other animals. We believe that the love and care that they get from us ensures that they are well adjusted happy furry members of the family.

We show our dogs as a family, as professionally as we are able. We really enjoy showing, even when we don't win.

Simone and Monique are on the committee for the Huon and Channel Kennel Club Inc, Simone is the President. Both are also on sub - committees with the Tasmanian Canine Association. We strongly believe in supporting the hobby of dog showing in Tasmania. Simone has recently completed her PhD in law looking at the role of regulation in dog breeding.

    Italian Greyhounds

Between Simone and Rowena we have bred 18 litters over the last twelve years. Rowena is having a break from breeding and showing but Simone and her daughters Sancia and Essien continue to show and breed.

We have retained dogs from litters we had in 2014 and 2015 and now have a strong show team, being shown in both the South and the North of Tasmania. Our gorgeous girl Imy - Ch Barad Imizwelo is owned by and lives with Di in the North of the State. Misty - Ch Barad Misty Mountain lives in Hobart. Both are now three years old and both will be having litters, we hope, at the end of this year or at the beginning of 2018.

Our most recent pups to join our show team are two we obtained, once again from the amazing Wondoan Kennel in Queensland. Our two Wondoan pups are Wellesley - Wondoan Wheres Wellesley and Southy - Wondoan Way Down South, both born in September 2017.  We also have Barad Scarlet Apple, from the last litter from our amazing Annie - Ch Barad Mountain Cathedral (IID) born in November 2017. We are having great fun showing these three youngsters. (We will put photos up soon of these three gorgeous youngsters)

Winnie  - RUBISS  Ch Barad Waiting To Sin, Bambi - Ch Barad Bambina Labamba, Annie - Ch Barad Mountain Cathedral (IID), Lady - Barad Pedra Branca & Emey - BISS Ch Barad Deepest Emotions. A girl from each of  Sim's five litters with our super star junior handler Sancia (July 2012).

    Tibetan Spaniels

The Tibetan Spaniels are an equally big part of Barad Kennels, just Mon doesnt take quite as many photos as Sim. Mon bred her last litter of Tibetan Spaniels in 2016. In 2017 she ventured into breeding Chihuahuas.
